International Professionals Committee

Our biggest accomplishment was organizing a Wichita Area Sister Cities booth at the first annual Open Streets ICT. Visitors came to the booth to spin the prize wheel and answer Wichita Area Sister Cities trivia questions.  We earned $118 dollars in memberships and t-shirt sales.  More importantly, many Wichitans learned about Sister Cities.  WASC booth volunteers were:  Tracee Adams, Azeb Telele, Aditi Prabhu, Aimee Leisy, Yukiko Hendrich, Margo Parks, Steve Luna, Jessica Perez, Perla Valle, Scott Fromme, and Pam Jerome.

In 2017, we enjoyed many International Professionals meetings at international restaurants around Wichita.  We especially did our best to support the Mexico Committee’s “Taste of Mexico” events in which part of the restaurant proceeds went to support the future Mexico Garden at Botanica.  Our July 11, 2017 meeting was at Molino’s Mexican Cuisine.  Pictured are:  Yukiko Hendrich, Tracee Adams, Azeb Telele, Perla Valle, Jessica Perez, John Ranney, Glyn Rimmington, Aimee Leisy, and Aditi Prahbu.

In February, the International Professionals Committee participated in a WSU trivia night to benefit WSU students participating in an Alternative Spring Break trip to New York City.  Our trivia team included:  Maria Schlotterbeck, Pam Jerome, Aimee Leisy, Lisa Blume, and Scott Fromme.

In March, the International Professionals Committee brought a group of Intensive English students who had been reading a novel about Vietnamese immigrants to experience Vietnamese culture through the “Voyage to Vietnam” exhibit at Exploration Place.  Pictured are: Ellie Parviz, Dima Estanbuli, Pam Jerome, Haylle Slingsby & Kaitlyn, Robin Marin, and Aimee Leisy

This is the second year that we attended World Refugee Day at WSU Shift Space Gallery as a Committee.  Inside there was an exhibit of art made by local refugees and outside was a fun carnival with music, food and hands-on activities.  Pictured are Haylle Slingsby, Ellie Parviz, Pam Jerome, Aimee Leisy, Lourdes Bareiro, Carolina Bareiro, Wes Lambert, and Essa Alateeq at World Refugee Day on June 20, 2017.
